Biography

Sculpturally striking and innovative, the headwear created by British milliner Jane Bailey combines traditional techniques with unexpected modern materials. The resulting pieces are visually captivating and unashamedly tactile.

With a lifelong passion for ‘making’ combined with her interest in visual arts – she has a Master’s degree from the University of Arts London – Jane attended a summer school with society milliner Gina Foster which proved the start of her millinery love affair. A year under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed London milliner Noel Stewart has perfected Jane’s technical skills.

Jane Bailey’s sophisticated hats combine a classic elegance with the influence of contemporary architects such as Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid, adding architectural elements and structure.

Jane’s latest collection ‘Fakturatektonika’ (inspired by the 1920′s Russian Constructivists who were concerned with the tektonika - spatial presence of an object - with faktura - material presence). The futuristic designs demonstrate her structural brilliance, effortlessly translating her visual design aesthetics.

Whether you are looking for a spectacular occasion piece or a versatile everyday floppy hat, Jane Bailey has it covered. She was voted runner up in the Atelier Millinery Jubilee competition and reached the semi-finals of the International Hat Designer of the Year competition 2012.
